Meet Homer. He's two years old and is a black Labrador/Golden Retriever cross. He's an assistance dog from Dogs for the Disabled and I met him on Tuesday at the Rural. He lives with Les, an ex Royal Air Force technician who severely broke his leg jumping off a aircraft wing and then subsequently injured his back when he was dropped as he was being transferred to the operating table. Les is now unable to bend down and Homer helps by picking things up for him, opening doors, switching on lights and taking his socks off.
Dogs for the Disabled do a fantastic job with children, the disabled and for children with Autism. Go and check out their website.

If anyone was wondering how the truffle competition went.......................I won first prize and beat the long standing Rural winner, Jessie. She's been winning first prize almost every week for the last 40 years!! Hope she didn't mind having a week off!!

ReplyDeleteLovely pooch and well done on winning. Did you get a prize? Or is beating the old dear supposed to be prize enough?
